Yellowjackets Fall to Peru State on Last Second Shot

LAMONI, IOWA - The Graceland University Women's Basketball Team hosted Peru State yesterday in the Morden Center. The Yellowjackets fell short in the 57-54 loss which drops their overall record to 5-23 on the year with a 2-17 conference record.

Peru came out hot in this one as the scored the first seven points of the game. Unfortunately for them, Graceland got hot too as they went on a 10-0 run to put them up. It was a tightly contested quarter, and when all was said and done it was tied up at 18.

The entire second quarter was just as close as the first as there was not a single lead change in the 10 minute period. Both Graceland and Peru scored 15 each, and this game was tied up at 33 going into halftime.

The third quarter was a complete change of pace as the Bobcats scored 10 before the Yellowjackets got on the board. Graceland only managed five in the quarter, putting them down 45-38 before the fourth.

Graceland was on the march back throughout the remainder of this one. The Yellowjackets found themselves down by six with just under three minutes to go before they went on an 8-0 run and tied it up at 54. With just seconds remaining, the Bobcats got on the board and won the game, 57-54.

Peru State shot 36.7% from the field while Graceland was 35.7% in the game. The Yellowjackets were individually led in scoring by Sophia Whitford with 12 points followed by Brooke Vermeer eight. On the boards, Victoria Nauman led the team with nine rebounds.
