Grand View Tops Women's Basketball

Lamoni, IA - The Graceland women's basketball team hosted Grand View University today in a conference match-up.

The Lady Jackets began the game with full court pressure. Then mixing up their half court defense, switching from zone to man and back on multiple defensive series, disrupted the rhythm for Grand View's offense in the early going.

With just over three minutes remaining in the first period, GU pushed its lead to five points (14-9) when a dazzling dribble drive from Emily work resulted in a three-point play.

GVU would settle down and find some easy baskets in transition to grab the lead.

As the half continued, the Vikings appeared to figure out the Jacket zone with quick passes and dribble penetration. This led to efficient offense for the visitors and their lead ballooned as they approached halftime.

A furious six points in the last minute for Graceland kept the game manageable.

Halftime score: GU 35, GVU 47

An 8-0 run to start the second half by Grand View led to a Jacket timeout.

A slew of three-point shots for the Vikings, combined with GU going cold from outside, led to a 26 point deficit (45-71) after three quarters of play.

The Lady Jackets would continue to battle hard in the final period, trimming the lead with defense and hustle plays.

Final score: GU 62, GVU 79

A trio of Yellowjackets were in double figures for the contest. Sydney Vaughn once again led the offense with 15 points and eight rebounds. Alli Salone chipped in with 13 and four, while Dana Hosley contributed 12 and six.

The Jackets will be back in action on the road this Saturday, Jan. 30 at 2:00 pm in Springfield, MO for a conference matchup with Evangel University.
