Storm Overtakes Yellowjackets

LAMONI, IA – Simpson College defeated Graceland University tonight 35-6. Matthew Victor and Zach Kraus each won their respective weight class.

"Not the outcome we had work for, but we will get back in the wrestling room tomorrow and continue to work on improving each day," said Zack Mullins, head coach. "I'm still very proud of this group and look forward to what we can accomplish this season."

Clayton Fenzel and Kruz Adamson competed closely the entire way in the first match at 125. The duo were tied at the end of the match, forcing overtime. Clayton Fenzel ended up winning by decision, 14-12, to give the Storm the lead 3-0.

Next, Dashiell Mann and Jacob Irwin battled it out in the 133 class. Late in the match, Irwin was able to pin Mann, to go ahead 9-0.

Graceland's Shea Swafford would then take on Davan Berrian at 141. Berrian edged out Swafford in a decision (6-0).

Unfortunately, the Storm would continue their momentum as Austin Pontier would fall (6:11) to Jason Kiehne. Simpson College moved ahead 18-0.

In the following two matches, Coulter Allen at 157 and Dakota Britt at 165 both were defeated by major decisions, 11-3 and 13-2, respectively. The Storm pushed forward to lead at 26-0.

Next to wrestle for the Jackets was Matthew Victor at 174. The match got off to a slow start, but Victor was to takedown his competitor, RJ Brown, twice, before going on to win by decision 6-1.

Zach Kraus then fed off the momentum from Victor's win as he competed against Damon Piatt at 184. Kraus marked two takedowns early to lead at 4-2. He went on to score three points for his team in the win by decision (6-3) over Piatt.

Simpson turned the tides Ryan Paige was defeated in a major decision (19-9) at 197 and William Samuels fell in a Tech Fall (3:50) in the 285 lb weight class.

The Storm came out on top 35-6.

Graceland will compete again on Nov. 16 at Waldorf College. The dual is set to begin at 7 p.m.
