The Yellowjackets End Their Losing Streak Taking Down the Valor
Lamoni, Iowa. – The Graceland University football team hosted the Evangel University (Mo.) Valor in their home opener. The Yellowjackets defeated the Valor on Huntsman field. The move to 1-1 on the season.
Graceland (1-1) vs. Valor (1-1)
Quarter 1 Graceland 0 | Valor 14
At the 10-minute mark, a fumble caused the possession change, and the Valor were able to find the end zone for a 36-yard touchdown and field goal. Evangel wasted no time finding their way back to the endzone with a 31-yard touchdown and put their advantage to 14-0 to end the quarter.
Quarter 2: Graceland 19 | Valor 21
The Valor continued their momentum into the second quarter; Hayden Conrad passed to Dillion Hester on their first drive for a 63-yard run. With the Yellowjackets Emariye Louden holding the line, The Valor had a loss of 2-yards. Evangel added to their score with a 4-yard rushing touchdown (21-0).
Both teams worked to find the endzone; Graceland worked for a 61-yard drive in seven plays and sealed it with a 7-yard Gerald Monroe touchdown. Graceland's Mathew Hall intercepted a pass to allow the ball to move 48-yard to a touchdown; they would get the extra point by Joseph Sanchez.
Evangel pushed to haul the GU run, and Cade Ross found wide receiver Gerald Monroe for a 19-yard touchdown to end the scoring of the second quarter.
Quarter 3: Graceland 39 | Valor 35
Evangel's Athanie Leevira recovered a fumble at the Graceland 42 and returned it to the endzone. At the 10-minute mark, the Valor put out a punt loss of 13 yards, and Kanoa Johnson returned for a 22 yards touchdown. Graceland would take the lead with an interception by John L'Heureux for the touchdown and an extra point by Joseph Sanchez.
Graceland continued its advantage over Evangel by adding another touchdown (39-28). The Valor would trim their deficit to 39-35 on a 69-yard touchdown run late in the quarter and attempted a two-point conversion to end the quarter
Quarter 4: Graceland 46 | Valor 35
The Valor would try to close the gap causing a fumble; the yellowjackets responded with a 63-yard touchdown to push the gap (46-35). With an 11-point lead, the Yellowjackets held the Valor to take the victory.
