Arrieta And Castano Cardozo Garner All-American Honors
Lamoni, IA - After helping to guide the women's soccer team to its fifth consecutive national appearance, junior Stefany Castano Cardozo and senior Gisela Arrieta were honored as All-America's.
After receiving honorable mention honors during the 2011 season, Gisela was named to the 2nd team in 2012. Arrieta finished the season as a first team all-conference performer and ranked in the top 25 in almost every major offensive category. Arrietas' technical game and scoring ability played a large role in Graceland's success this year and throughout her storied career.
Castano Cardozo, a junior goalkeeper, began the 2012 campaign fresh off of an Olympic appearance for the Colombian national team. Stefany is a polished keeper who anchored the Jacket defense this season. She finished 17th in total saves and 29th in saves per game. Stefany was also named the 2012 HAAC player of the year.
"This honor is a testament to the hard work these two ladies have put in during their careers," said Head Coach Fred Wagenaar about the all-american's. "I'm very proud of both of them and they're fantastic representatives of what it means to be a Jacket.
"Gisela will be greatly missed next season for her scoring and leadership," continued Wagenaar. "Stefany will be back for her senior campaign and I look for bigger things from her," he finished.
Congratulations to both Stefany and Gisela on being named All-Americans for the 2012 season!
