Arrieta Tallies Six In Win Over Culver-Stockton
Tuesday afternoon in Canton, Missouri, she tallied a milestone that topped even some of the lofty numbers she has put up during her time at Graceland. Arrieta scored six times and had two assists in the Jackets 10-1 win over conference opponent, Culver-Stockton College in an amazing show of skill. Her six goals are believed to be a Lady Yellowjacket record for an individual player during one match.
Head women's coach Fred Wagenaar talked about Arrietas' performance after the match.
"She was incredible today," he said. "She was spot on with her shot selection and it obviously showed. Gisela was the recipient of great passing but she did a good job of involving her teammates as well.
"Having someone of Gisela's ability forces your opponent to exert a lot of energy trying to slow them down," he continued. "With that, she not only creates things for herself but opens up possibilities for her teammates."
Four other players scored in Graceland's first conference win of the season over the Wildcats. Senior Karina Vega scored in the 3rd minute, freshman midfielder Leslie Carroll in the 26th minute, freshman Daniela Gonzalez in the 53rd minute and freshman Rebecca Ferguson in the 80th minute.
Wagenaar and his young team knew the importance of today's road game. Wagenaar commented on that after, "Everyone got the opportunity to play today and it was great to see the two freshman score. We definitely have some things to work on, such as our possession, but we did show some good offensive passing."
"Now we move forward to our homecoming match Saturday against MidAmerica," he finished.
The Jackets now stand at 5-4-3 overall and 1-1-1 in HAAC play. Graceland will next play Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in its annual homecoming game at "The Razz."
