Kansas Wesleyan Upsets #4 Graceland
In a very physical back and forth match however, Kansas Wesleyan fought back from a 1-0 first-half deficit to eventually tie the game and then advanced 4-3 in penalty kicks.
The Jackets got their only goal of the match in the first half as senior Chelsea Phillips (Granada Hills, CA) hooked-up with Ana Linares (Bogota, Colombia) who found the back of the net on a beautiful strike from just outside the 18-yard box. The score would remain that way into the second half when Coyote forward Kaitlyn Hamersky headed one into the net from inside the six. After battling until the end of regulation and through two overtimes, the Coyotes were able to outlast Graceland 4-3 in penalty-kicks in a match that officially goes down as a tie, but KWU advances to Alabama after the PK shootout.
The loss unfortunately ends the Jackets season with an overall record of 15-1-3 and 8-0-1 including the Lady Jackets seventh consecutive conference championship and third consecutive national tournament appearance.
