Baker Tops #6 GU In Penalty Kicks

Lamoni, IA-Following an outstanding regular season the #6 Jackets headed into postseason play Wednesday night looking to secure an automatic berth into the NAIA national field of 32.

Graceland, having suffered through several injuries during 2010, went toe-to-toe with Baker University in a very physical match. Ultimately, the match ended in a 1-1, two overtime tie but the Wildcats won the match 3-2 in penalty kicks.

Both teams went through the first half in a 0-0 tie but in the second half the Jackets tallied the first score as freshman Ana Linares (Bogota, Colombia) struck a shot in from just outside the 18-yard box. The match would remain that way until the 79th minute when Baker was able to score the equalizer. Eventually the Wildcats were able to outlast the Jackets in PK's for the 3-2 victory.

The #6 Jackets now stand at 15-1-2 overall and 8-0-1 in conference play. Graceland now awaits its fate until this Sunday evening (November 14th) when the NAIA National Tournament Field will be announced by 8pm. The Jackets currently stand at #4 in the NAIA RPI and will hope to earn one of 6 automatic bids to the tournament. To track the NAIA national tournament field on Sunday evening click here.
