LAMONI, Iowa — Graceland University softball dropped both ends of a conference doubleheader to Park University on Friday, falling 16-0 and 8-2, while honoring seniors Aubrey Hansen, Malorie McKinney and Kady Vandemark in a pregame ceremony.
In game one, Graceland (8-38, 3-21 HAAC) was limited to two hits in a 16-0, five-inning loss to Park (20-22, 9-15 HAAC). The Pirates generated early run production with extra-base hits and a first-inning home run, then extended the margin with multi-run frames in the third and fifth innings. Sydney Bears and Paige Pieper accounted for the Yellowjackets' only hits, while the offense produced three walks but could not convert.
In the second contest, Graceland (8-39, 3-22 HAAC) fell 8-2 to Park (21-22, 10-15 HAAC). Park used a seven-run third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run and multiple RBI hits, to take control. Graceland answered in the fifth inning, plating two runs on RBI from Brooklynn Glasgow and Brea Headly, taking advantage of defensive miscues. The Yellowjackets finished with three hits, while Park totaled 14. Kaylee Henry was charged with the loss, allowing eight earned runs across four innings of work.
"We honored a group of seniors who have invested a lot into this program," Interim Head Coach Brady McKillip said. "These girls continue to give me everything they've got. We'll wrap up the season tomorrow and hope to battle in our finale."
Graceland concludes its season and home slate Saturday, April 25, hosting Central Methodist in a doubleheader scheduled for 1pm and 3pm at North Park in Lamoni, Iowa. For more information on Graceland softball and all Yellowjacket athletics, visit GUjackets.com.
