LAMONI, Iowa — Graceland University softball seniors Jayda Gay (Martensdale, Iowa), Charlee Peters (Norwalk, Iowa), and Sammi Peterson (Livonia, Mo.) have been named to the Heart of America Athletic Conference Honorable Mention Team, announced by the league office this week.
Each senior made significant contributions throughout the 2024 season, both offensively and defensively, providing leadership and consistency in a competitive Heart of America schedule.
Jayda Gay, an infielder who started 47 games, finished the season with a .211 batting average, adding 28 hits, 12 extra-base hits (including two home runs), and 18 RBIs. Gay led the team in slugging percentage (.353) and stolen bases (22), while also recording a .312 on-base percentage and serving as a reliable presence in the middle infield. Her aggressive base running and power at the plate were key assets in the Yellowjackets' lineup.
Charlee Peters started all 48 games in the outfield and posted a team-best 32 hits on 141 at-bats, compiling a .227 batting average. Her six sacrifice hits were tied for the team lead, and she added five doubles, 11 RBIs, and nine stolen bases. Peters demonstrated consistent bat control and provided steady range and fielding with a .956 fielding percentage.
Sammi Peterson, a veteran presence at first base and designated player, notched 26 hits in 120 at-bats, batting .217 on the year. She drove in 15 runs, posted five extra-base hits, and maintained a .293 on-base percentage. Peterson's leadership extended to the defensive side, where she contributed 38 assists and anchored key innings from the corner.
"We're incredibly proud of Jayda, Charlee, and Sammi," said head coach [Insert Coach Name]. "Their work ethic, commitment, and love for the game have left a lasting impact on this program. This recognition is well deserved."
The trio closes out their collegiate careers having helped guide a young Graceland roster through a season that emphasized growth and competitive drive across a challenging conference slate.
