Wrestling Fall to the Vikings

Marshall, Mo.– The Graceland University Wrestling team dueled the Missouri Valley College Vikings.The Yellowjackets were defeated by a score of 10-35, they move to 2-2 on the season.

Starting the night for the Yellowjacket's Denias Johnson in the 125 lb weight class was defeated in a tech fall, 0-17. The Vikings move the team score in their favor 0-5. 

The Vikings Hayden Williams would follow with his own victory defeating Graceland's Riley Harger with a tech fall (16-0) in the 133 lbs weight class. 

Next, at the 141 lbs weight class, Graceland's Joe Lupton (No. 6) would step to the mat to take on Missouri Valley's Brogan Rutz. Lupton would take the victory in a decision, 13-8. The score is now 3-10.

At 149 pounds, Jackson Wenberg (No. 8) (GU) would take on Bryson Anderson (MVC). Wenberg would come out on top with a major decision (10-2). Missouri Valley leads 10-7.

The Vikings would get the first pin of the night from Larry Rodriguez against Graceland's Colin Sharp in a second period (4:47). The score is now 7-16.

In the following weight class, 165 lbs., Jeraimiah Nyberg (GU) competed against Brody Von Brethorst (MVC) and was defeated 15-7 major decision. Missouri Valley leads, 20-7.

Mark Leija would take on the 174 lbs. weight class and was defeated in a second period (4:01) pin by the Vikings Drake Tipton. The score is now 7-26.

Missouri Valley would add another win in the 184 lbs. weight class when Karim Shakur defeated Cameron Cornman in a 14-13 decision. The score is now 7-29.

In the next weight class, 197 lbs., John Schuttler (GU) was victorious over Anthonie Banuelos (MVC) in a 7-3 decision. Missouri Valley leads 29-10.

The final weight class of the night featured David Toese and Missouri Valley's No. 7 Junior Joshua Isaac. Toese was defeated in a first period (2:11) pin. The final score was 10-35.

The Wrestling team will take back to the mats on Saturday, December 3rd, when they travel to Crete, Neb. to compete in the Doane University Open. Start time is set form 9:00 am.
