Wrestling Falls to Wildcats
Lamoni, Iowa – The Graceland University Wrestling team dueled against the Baker University (Kan.) Wildcats and were defeated 20-27. The Yellowjackets are 1-1 on the season.
Starting off for the Yellowjackets, Riece Graham takes the 125 lbs. weight class in a forfeit to start the dual in favor of Graceland 6-0.
In the following weight class, 133 lbs., Joe Lupton stepped to the mat to take on Baker's Jake Barnes. Lupton would dominate with a decision of 17-3 to help the Yellowjackets take the lead 10-0.
Jackson Wenberg would take on the 141 lbs weight class and would take down Baker's Joseph Triscornia in a decision of 9-2. The score is now 14-0.
The Wildcats were able to get on the board in the 149 lbs. weight class. Dallas Koelzer of Baker won by decision (6-16) over Ryan Anderson of Graceland. Koelzer brought the contest to 14-4.
The next weight class was 157 lbs., and Jeraimiah Nyberg would take on Baker's Jonah Muhammad. The Wildcats would take the class with the decision (3-15). The score is now 14-8.
The Wildcats Joey Hancock would follow next with his own victory to the Graceland Invi Bella by decision (2-13) and bring the contest to 14-12.
Baker would get the first pin of the night from Cael Johnson against Graceland's Mark Leija in the 174 lbs weight class. Shifting the contest in their favor 14-18.
At the 184 lbs weight class Brody Saltzman (GU) would take on Brett Bober (BU). The Wildcats would take the victory by a pin; the score is now 14-24.
Baker would add a win by decision in the 197 lbs weight class from the match-up of Graceland's John Schuttler and Baker's Malachi Karibo. The score now 14-27.
The final weight class of the night featured Graceland's David Toese and Baker's Roman Bushek. Toese pinned his opponent and ended the score at 20-27.

The Yellowjackets will head back to the mat on Saturday, November 12, when they travel to Grimes, Iowa to take part in the Grand View Open. The tournament is set to begin at 9:00 am.
