Twin Towers Nicholas and Jonathan Mueller Choose GU

Lamoni, IA - After making an appearance in its first-ever national tournament, men's volleyball head coach Chad McDole is pleased to announce the signings of Nicholas and Jonathan Mueller.

The Muellers, both 6-foot-6, are natives of Stillwater, Minn., as Jonathan has focused on his player as a middle and opposite side hitter while Nicholas plays primarily as an opposite hitter. They are both products of Stillwater Area High School and made a big impact in the men's club volleyball scene in the area as the two suited up for the Crossfire Club.

""The leadership and talent of Jon and Nick Mueller has really made the team what it is today," noted Crossfire head coach Jovi Sorenson. "Since coming to our program two years ago, Crossfire has been undefeated in local tournaments as well as back to back North Country Region champions."

The twins' play has made an impact on a national scale, as witnessed by USA Volleyball's Indoor High Performance Coordinator, Rick Mischka, a former GU coach and alumnus.

"I am very happy to see that Nick and Jon have signed with Graceland University. As a former player and coach at Graceland, I really do think they will fit well with what the University and the men's volleyball team philosophy is. I have had the chance to see and coach them over the past year and half; they are very passionate and worked very hard to make their dream of playing collegiate volleyball come true."

Both multi-sport athletes (volleball and basketball), McDole believes both can make an immediate impact on next year's squad which looks to go further into postseason play after its elimination in pool play at the 2012 NAIA National Invitational Tournament.

"We are very excited about Jon and Nick," said McDole. "They are both extremely athletic players. One of the biggest reasons we are excited about these two is because of the type of personalities they bring on and off the court; they are very coachable and hard-working. They are motivated and are only scratching the surface of their potential.

"I am looking forward to them making us better and taking us to the next level."

Jon and Nick, the sons of Marcia and Donald, will look to major in Physical Therapy and Business Administration/Accounting, respectively, during their time in Lamoni.
