Men and Women's Tennis Drop Matches at McPherson
Kansas City, MO - The Graceland men and women's tennis teams competed against McPherson College today.
The men's team was defeated 6-3 and the women's team was defeated 7-2.
The Yellowjackets men's squad went 1-2 in doubles action with Gustavo Yanez and DJ Parker winning at #2 doubles 9-7.
DJ Parker then would also win at #4 singles against Juan Alejandro Jimenez 7-5,6-2. Danil Kanunnikov would get the only other win in singles action as they fell 6-3 to McPherson.
"On the men's side," said head Coach Joel Loving. "We lost some close matches at the top but were right there. We have played a brutal schedule so far. This was the first NAIA school we have faced and they are in the top 20 in the country so I am pleased. When we get all of our players back in the court will be tough to compete with. DJ Parker and Danil Kanunnikov won their matches against strong opponents, We look forward to finishing this season strong."
The women's team also had a tough go at it. The Yellowjackets' Jessica Worring and Alejandra Diaz Mares teamed up for the win at #1 doubles. Worring would get the win in #1 singles before McPherson would take the rest of the singles for the 7-2 victory.
"We were short our normal team," said Coach Loving. "I was proud of the ladies effort though. We will improve as we get to the heart of the season."
Both the men and women's tennis teams will next face William Jewell College on April 1st at home. The matches are scheduled to start at 3pm.
