The Ravens Shut Out Graceland 2-0

Atchison, KS - The Graceland men's soccer team traveled to Benedictine College this afternoon for a pivotal Heart Conference match up.

Graceland came into the match, looking to keep the wins coming after a 4-1 win last Tuesday against a #18 ranked Bellevue College. Benedictine entered the contest with an 2-5-1 Heart record determined to knock off the Yellowjackets.

Neither team would manage to score in the first half as both teams were close to even on shots. BC held a slight advantage over Graceland 6-5.

The Ravens came out strong in the second half though, scoring back-to-back goals in the 70th and the 72nd minute to sweep GU 2-0.

"For parts of the game we were the better team," said Head Coach Bryan Courtney. "Unfortunately, it does not take long for momentum to change and the outcome can be decided on a few mistakes. I thought we had a few guys really play well, and at times most of the team played well.

We have one more game left this season and we will play hard to the final whistle. It will be difficult to say goodbye to this group of seniors who have poured their hearts into this program."

The win improves Benedictine to 8-6-1, 3-5-1 in the Heart. Graceland falls to 7-10, 1-8 in the Heart.

Graceland goalkeeper Miguel Uribe took the loss in net to fall to 3-2 on the season. He made three saves.

Graceland returns to action this week on Saturday, October 31st, when they host Avila University in another Heart match up. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30pm.
