Yellowjackets Fall to Baker University 2-0

Baldwin City, KS - The Graceland University men's soccer team suffered its fifth consecutive loss today as they fell to Baker University 2-0.

The game was very high in intensity, as in the first half BU was able to score rather quickly in the 12th minute. GU would never really get a good chance at the net and the game would go into half time Baker up 1-0. Baker held a half time edge of 10 shots to 1, however BU goalkeeper Ryan Emme was never really challenged.

The second half was played very similarly to the first half. Baker continued to dominate the game, with Graceland unable to able to capitalize on anything in the second half.

Baker defender Amer Didic was able to score again in the 69th minute as he was able to find the back of the net off of a pass from Jordan Thacker. Graceland goalkeeper Miguel Uribe couldn't get enough of it to prevent it from going into the net giving Baker the 2-0 lead.

Graceland then tried to counter for the remaining 26 minutes of regulation, however Baker was able to hold on for the victory as the Yellowjackets did not take any more shots on net.

"It was a physical and hard fought game against a good team," said Head Coach Bryan Courtney. "I know that the guys are frustrated with our losses, as am I. But we keep battling and never give up. I am proud of the effort and perseverance that they continue to demonstrate in these difficult times.

I am hopeful that good things will be gained and learned from the commitment to working together that these guys have all bought into. They deserve more than we have gotten so far."

The loss drops Graceland to 6-9 on the season, the win improves Baker to 13-1. Uribe took the loss in the net for the Yellowjackets, dropping his record to 2-1.

Offensively Graceland was lead by Cameron Barksdale. Barksdale was able to get off one shot on goal.

The Yellowjackets will look to break their losing streak when they face off against Bellevue University on Tuesday, October 20th. The game is scheduled to start at 7pm.
