Yellowjackets Down Evangel in Conference Match up 6-1

Lamoni, IA - The Graceland men's soccer team hosted Evangel University this evening in an Heart of America Conference match-up.

The Yellowjackets entered the game with an 5-4 record overall, and the Crusaders came into the game with an 0-6 overall record.

Graceland got onto the board in minute four when sophomore Robert Turk chipped a shot past EU goalkeeper Adrian Plascencia. Sergi Trullas and David Chaker assisted on the play.

The Crusaders would put a goal on the board just seven minutes later from Kyler Moore.

The Yellowjackets would score three more times before going into the half 4-1. They held a 14-2 shot advantage at the intermission.

Graceland continued to add onto its lead in the 49th minute when Turk hit his second goal of the night. Not long after Zack Ferrara got off a shot that would go past Plascencia again and bring the score to 6-1.

Graceland would hold the lead for the rest of the game as both teams would not be able to score again before time ran out. GU would win by a final of 6-1.

"The challenge for us going into tonight was to maintain discipline and be comfortable in our tactical approach," said head Coach Bryan Courtney. "We were very successful attacking, obviously, but we got too aggressive at times and forgot our spacing, or got too far forward. We also have to rein in the fouls. It doesn't matter who you are playing, a free shot is always a dangerous situation. I'm happy with the win and the effort. Every conference win is important and you have to be excited whenever you can get one. Evangel is a new program, but they have some talent and you cannot take anybody in this conference for granted."

Miguel Uribe made two saves in the win.

The Yellowjackets outshot the Crusaders 30-5.

The Win improves Graceland to 6-4 overall, 1-2 Heart. The loss drops the Crusaders to 0-7 overall, 0-3 Heart.

Graceland returns to action Wednesday, September 30th, when they travel to William Penn University for another Heart conference match-up. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30pm.
