Yellowjackets Keep Winning Streak Alive
Lamoni, IA - The Graceland men's soccer team returned home today to battle Waldorf College at Rasmussen Field. They defeated the Warriors 3-0.
The Yellowjackets had a beautifully cool September day to take on the Warriors on a Saturday afternoon.
GU struck early, as Ryan Schlom buried a goal in the 2nd minute to open the scoring for Graceland. This was a rebound goal after the shot from Sergi Truallas went wide.
Schlom was not finished; however, as he quickly turned one goal into two just minutes later. After a beautiful feed from Sebastian Pineda Gordillo from the near corner, to give the Yellowjackets a 2-0 lead just 20 minutes in.
The Warriors would answer by trying to put the pressure on the Yellowjacket defense towards the end of the first stanza, but Alex Richt was up to the task, stopping the one shot that Waldorf was able to put on goal. Neither team was able to find the back of the net again before the halftime buzzer and they would go in GU still up 2-0.
As quickly as Graceland came out in the first half, they would do the same in the second. In the 46 minute the Yellowjackets would score the final goal of the game from Cody Blentlinger. GU would shut out Waldorf 3-0.
"We did a good job controlling the tempo of the game," said head Coach Bryan Courtney. "The chemistry continues to get better each game. We could have done a better job finishing today. Overall I am happy with how we played. We will face a much more difficult opponent on Tuesday when we travel to Ashford. It will be a good measuring stick for us."
The win improves Graceland to 5-1 overall on the season. They hope to add to their winning streak Tuesday, when they travel to Clinton, IA to take on Ashford University. Kick-off is scheduled for 4pm.
