Men's Soccer Falls to William Woods 3-1

Lamoni, IA - The Graceland men's soccer team competed in its second game of the season today against William Woods University. They fell to the Owls 3-1.

The Yellowjackets entered the game on a high after winning their season opener against Ottawa University 2-0 on Wednesday.

The Owls came out ready to play and quickly scored their first goal off of a penalty kick at the 20:15 mark. However Graceland was not going to let them take over the first half and answered right back with a goal at the 28:50 mark from Cody Bletlinger. This brought the team into the half tied 1-1.

With the game tied the Owls came out of half time wanting to pull ahead which is exactly what they did scoring their next goal at the 51:33 mark. Gracelands defense could not keep up with William Woods and they managed to score a third time before the end of the game at the 71:24 mark ending the game 3-1.

"I was a little disappointed in how we defended as a team," said Head Coach Bryan Courtney. "Some of it I believe was lack of cohesiveness in the middle and some was poor individual technique. The good news is that it is still very early in the season and we will continue to get better."

Despite the loss the Yellowjackets out shot the Owls 11-8. However William Woods had more shots on goal kicking five to Gracelands two.

Sergi Trullas led the GU attack with three shots. Cameron Barksdale and Bletlinger also had two shots and one shot on goal each.

The Graceland men's record is now 1-1. They will next travel to Northwestern College on September 4th for a 5pm game time.
