Men's Golf Places 3rd at Waldorf Invite, Paramananthan Shares Medalist Honors

ALBERT LEA, Minn. — The Graceland University men's golf team posted a team score of 299 (+11) to finish in third place at the Waldorf Invitational held Wednesday at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club. The Yellowjackets competed in a 10-team field on the 6,594-yard, par-72 layout.

The Yellowjackets were led by Jonathan Paramananthan, who carded a tournament-low 68 (-4) to finish tied for first individually with Luke Fenner of Waldorf "A." Paramananthan's round featured steady control off the tee, precise iron play, and conversion on scoring opportunities to lead all Graceland scorers.

"Jonathan was excellent today," head coach Kevin Brunner said. "He played smart, stayed patient, and executed well in all phases of his game. His composure set the tone for the rest of our lineup. As a team, we were solid across the board and put ourselves in position to compete with strong programs."

Graceland's third-place finish came just two shots off the pace, as Viterbo "B" and Waldorf "A" each tied for first at 297 (+9). Rounding out the top five were Grand View "B" at 301 (+13) and Viterbo "A" at 303 (+15).

Supporting Paramananthan in the team total were Colton Dennis, who shot a 76 (+4) to tie for 12th, Kallum Webb with a 77 (+5) tied for 15th, and Saxen Hii, who contributed a 78 (+6) to tie for 17th. Clayton Wichman rounded out the Yellowjackets' lineup with an 81 (+9).

Graceland was one of just three teams to post a score below 300, continuing a trend of consistency in tournament play this fall. The team held its position by keeping big numbers off the card and producing reliable par saves across the lineup. Graceland also benefitted from depth, as three players finished inside the top 20 and five inside the top 35.

In individual standings, Paramananthan and Fenner were the only players to break 70. Waldorf's Christian Prambs finished third at even-par 72, while four players tied for fourth at 73 (+1). Graceland's team scoring reflected a strong spread, with its top four players separated by just 10 strokes.

Trevor Shelton, competing individually for Graceland, posted a round of 90 (+18).

The event featured full teams from Viterbo, Waldorf, Grand View, and North Iowa Area Community College, with "B," "C," and "D" squads also participating. Graceland outpaced teams such as North Iowa Area CC "B" (315) and Waldorf "B" (329), improving their standing in regional competition.

The Yellowjackets' performance at Wedgewood Cove provides momentum heading into the next event and reinforces the team's ability to post competitive team scores under tournament conditions.

Graceland will return to competition on Wednesday, October 1, at 10:00 a.m. CDT at the Simpson Invitational, hosted at Indianola Country Club in Indianola, Iowa.
