Graceland Finishes 11th at Simpson Invite, Webb Leads Yellowjackets

INDIANOLA, Iowa — The Graceland University men's golf team concluded play at the Simpson Invitational on Friday with an 11th-place finish, posting a team total of 317 (+33) at Indianola Country Club. The Yellowjackets competed against a deep 15-team field that featured NAIA and junior college programs from across the region.

Coe College "A" took the team title with a commanding 281 (-3), the only team to finish under par. Simpson College "A" followed in second at 294 (+10), while Simpson's "B" squad rounded out the top three at 299 (+15).

Graceland was led by Kallum Webb, who carded a 77 (+6) to finish tied for 31st individually in a field of nearly 90 players. Webb's round included consistent ball control and efficient scrambling around the greens, providing the Yellowjackets with their low round of the day.

Joining Webb in the scoring lineup were Jonathan Paramananthan, Clayton Wichman, and Colton Dennis, who each posted matching rounds of 80 (+9). Saxen Hii added an 81 (+10) to round out the team total.

Competing individually, Trevor Shelton also recorded a score of 80 (+9).

Graceland's team placement comes amid a competitive schedule that has seen the Yellowjackets tested by strong opponents across the Midwest. The narrow fairways and fast greens of Indianola Country Club presented a strategic challenge throughout the round, emphasizing the need for conservative club selection and effective course management.

"We saw flashes of solid play today, but we didn't finish holes the way we needed to in this field," said head coach Kevin Brunner. "This course demanded consistency tee to green, and when we were out of position, it showed. Still, I'm encouraged by the effort and the way we competed until the final hole."

The Yellowjackets' team score of 317 placed them one shot ahead of Southeastern Community College and six shots behind Coe's "B" team. Iowa Central "B" (302), Buena Vista (304), and Des Moines Area "B" (304) formed a competitive mid-pack that Graceland will look to close the gap on in future tournaments.

Individually, the tournament was headlined by Sam Scully and Tyler Santi of Coe "A," who each posted 68s (-3) to share medalist honors. Graceland's top finisher, Webb, was followed closely by a tightly grouped field in the 80–81 range, where more than a dozen players tied between 47th and 56th.

Graceland will look to build on this experience as it prepares to host its next event.

The Yellowjackets return to competition Friday, October 3, at 12:00 p.m. CDT, when they host their annual Alumni Homecoming Tournament at Lamoni Golf and Country Club.
