Men's Basketball Falls to Park

Lamoni, Iowa. – The Graceland University Men's Basketball team played host to the Park University (Mo.) Pirates in their conference home opener and were defeated with a score 69-72. They move to 4-3 on the season and are 0-2 in the Heart.

 

Graceland (4-3, 0-2) | Park (3-3, 1-0)

Half 1: Graceland 38 | Park 36

The match-up would start with both teams battling back and forth to take the advantage. The Yellowjackets would pass 15 points first with a layup from Winslow Martin and a dunk by Seth Compass (16-13). At the halfway mark of the first half, Graceland would lead by one from a behind-the-arch Nathan Oakley shot (19-18). With just a minute and 20 seconds remaining on the clock, the Pirates regained their lead (33-36), and the Yellowjackets would drain a C.J. Wilson three to head into the second half leading by two.

Graceland would hit 12-34 field goals (35.3-percent), 6-12 three-pointers (50-percent) and 8-8 free throws (100-percent). The Pirates would hit 14-32 field goals (43.8-percent), 6-14 three-pointers (42.9-percent) and 2-8 free throws (25-percent)

Half 2: Graceland 31 | Park 39

The Yellowjackets would start the second quarter by increasing their lead to 45-38 (17:51-minute mark). The Pirates would continue to trail to the Yellowjackets; both teams rattled off points. The Pirates would shift gears to overtake the Yellowjackets at the 2:48-minute mark with a 10-point jump. Graceland would work to close their deficit, but Park would drain six points to solidify their advantage and the victory 75-69.

The Pirates would have a shooting percentage in the field, three points and free throws above 50–percent. They would shoot 13-26 field goals (50 – percent), 2-4 three-pointers (50-percent), and 11-15 free throws (73.3-percent).
