Late Surge From Central Methodist Downs Graceland Men

LAMONI - Earlier tonight, the men's basketball team was defeated by the Central Methodist University Eagles, 83-72 in Fayette, Missouri. With the loss, Graceland falls to 2-17 overall and 1-17 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart).

Graceland started the game on an 8-2 run through the first four minutes. They held on to their six point lead as they were up 17-11 on the Eagles with 11:31 still to go in the first half. Central Methodist would take the lead after a 9-0 spark just before the under ten media timeout.

The Yellowjackets eventually went back up by four with just over four minutes until halftime after back-to-back three pointers. In the final minutes, the Eagles took the lead back and led 35-34 at halftime over Graceland.

Just past the 12-minute mark in the second half, Central Methodist extended their lead to 11 points. Graceland called timeout with 7:09 remaining in the contest trailing 66-56. Out of the timeout, a Yellowjacket three cut their deficit to just seven. Late in the game, Graceland had the Eagle lead trimmed down to just six with 3:11 to play. Central Methodist converted down the stretch at the charity stripe to hold off a late comeback from Graceland.

Individually, Winslow Martin II led the Yellowjackets in scoring with 23 points on the night. Nick Coleman add 14 points and a team-high three assists while Jevon Burton had 11 points.

The men will finish out their season on Monday night as they host Baker University. The opening tip against the Wildcats is set for 6 p.m. inside the Morden Center.
