Men's Basketball Suffers Home Loss to Culver-Stockton
LAMONI - The Graceland University Men's Basketball team fell to the Culver-Stockton Wildcats last night, 95-76 to fall to 2-11 overall and 1-11 in conference play on the season.
Graceland fell behind in the first few minutes of the contest to the Wildcats. Culver-Stockton led by 10 with 13:46 remaining in the first half before the Yellowjackets went on a run of their own. A 14-3 spark from the Graceland offense put them up one with just over 11 minutes until halftime. Later in the half, Graceland took a 38-32 lead but Culver-Stockton came right back to tie it at 39 with 3:04 left. Two late baskets in the final minute of the half gave the Wildcats the lead back as they entered halftime up 43-41.
The Yellowjackets ended a scoring drought of over five minutes with 18:29 to go in the second half as they trailed 47-42. A minute later, they were within two points of the Wildcats. From that point until the 12-minute mark, Culver-Stockton reeled off a 19-4 run to go up 66-49. Graceland was able to get back within 13 points later in the half, but the Wildcats held on late. They were able to convert several trips to the free throw line down the stretch to officially put the game away.
As a team, Graceland shot 42% from the field compared to nearly 60% for the Wildcats. The Yellowjackets shot well from the free throw line as well going 16 of 20 while Culver-Stockton went 14 of 15. Individually, Graceland was led in scoring by Winslow Martin II with 19 points. Jevon Burton and Nick Coleman added 15 apiece for the game.
Graceland will look to end their losing skid when they host Missouri Valley College on Saturday afternoon. They are scheduled for a 4 p.m. start in the Morden Center.
