Park Tops Graceland Men at Home, 100-73
LAMONI - The Graceland University Men's Basketball team fell to Park University, 100-73 earlier tonight in the Morden Center. The Yellowjackets drop to 2-8 overall and 1-8 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart).
Graceland and Park both scored at a high clip in the first half. Just seven minutes in, Park capped off a 6-0 run to lead 17-11. Graceland eventually would trail by as many as 7 with 11:40 still remaining. Both teams continued to trade baskets throughout a majority of the next eight minutes. The Yellowjackets were able to close the half with stops defensively that turned into points.
Graceland shot 19-30 from the field in the first half to help them out to a 53-48 halftime lead. Park was just under 50% from the field on 42 shot attempts.
In the second half, the Yellowjackets extended their lead to six with 16:02 on the clock. From that point on, Park took over the game offensively and were charged by an 18-0 run over the next six minutes of play. Park eventually pulled away going up by double-digits and holding on to a 20-plus point lead in the final two minutes of the contest.
Statistically, Graceland finished the game shooting 46% while Park shot just over 48%. Park also won the rebounding battle 56-25 including grabbing 24 offensive rebounds. Individually for the Yellowjackets, they were led in scoring by Tyrone Wright who had 20 points off the bench. Trey Newsham added 14 for the game, which included going 4-6 from three-point range. Carlos Saucedo was also in double-digit scoring with 10 points.
Graceland's next game will be on January 13 at William Penn University. The tip-off against the Statesmen is set for 7:30 p.m. in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
