Hot Shooting Downs Graceland Men's Basketball
LAMONI - The Graceland University Men's Basketball team was defeated last night, 84-63 to Peru State College in Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) action. With the loss, Graceland is now 2-7 overall and 1-7 in Heart play.
In the first three minutes, Graceland opened the game on a 7-0 run over the Bobcats. Later in the half, Peru State trimmed the Yellowjacket lead down to just one with 11:32 left. Graceland held on to a slim advantage and extended it to six with under ten minutes to go in the half.
Peru State's hot shooting continued through later in the half and went on a 12-0 run to take a double-digit lead. They would go up by as many as 15 late in the first half and lead 46-33 at halftime.
Still trailing by double-digits early in the second half, Graceland was able to slowly trim the Peru State lead down. With just over ten minutes remaining, Graceland trailed by just two at 58-56. The Bobcats never relinquished the lead and eventually went back up by double-digits. Peru State pulled away big in the closing minutes for the 21-point victory.
Statistically, Graceland was led in scoring by Nick Coleman with 19 points while Winslow Martin II added 14 off the bench. Coleman also had a team-high eight assists in the game.
The men's basketball team will have a lengthy break before their next contest. They are scheduled to go to Mount Mercy on January 6 at 7:30 p.m. for their next game.
