Yellowjackets Drop Regular Season Finale at Kansas Wesleyan
SALINA, Kan. — The Graceland University women's flag football team closed out the regular season with a 46-6 loss to Kansas Wesleyan on Tuesday evening in KCAC play.
Graceland moved the ball through the air, totaling 263 passing yards on 31-of-49 attempts, but was unable to convert consistently in the red zone against a Kansas Wesleyan defense that generated stops on multiple fourth-down situations.
Quarterback Sierra Flores completed 31 passes for 263 yards and one touchdown, leading the Yellowjackets' passing attack. Makayla Brown recorded seven receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown, while Ahmari Byrd added five catches for 78 yards, providing a vertical threat in the passing game.
Defensively, the Yellowjackets finished with three sacks and 31 total tackles, but allowed several explosive passing plays, including multiple touchdown completions in the first half.
Graceland's lone score came in the fourth quarter on a goal-to-go completion from Flores to Brown, capping a late offensive drive.
"We need to be more efficient on fourth down and finish drives when we get into scoring position," head coach Aaron Richardson said. "There were positives in our passing game, but we have to clean up execution and limit big plays defensively heading into postseason."
With the result, Graceland concludes the regular season at 8-8 overall and 4-2 in KCAC play.
Next up, the Yellowjackets will compete in the KCAC Conference Tournament, scheduled for April 24-25, with seeding and opponent to be announced Friday. Game times are to be determined.
