Football Falls in Overtime to Vikings

Marshall, Mo.   –  The Graceland University football team traveled to Marshall, Mo. to take on the Missouri Valley (Mo.) Vikings. The Yellowjackets were defeated in overtime by the Vikings. They now move to 1-2 on the season.

 

Graceland (1-2) vs. Vikings (1-1)

Quarter 1 Graceland 0 | Vikings 14

Early in the quarter (13:120), the Vikings were able to find the end zone to get the board first with a rushing 1-yard touchdown and extra point. Missouri Valley continued their pressure by moving the ball 72-yards in 17 plays; Viking's Running Back, Jaleen Jones, increased their advantage (0-14) to end the scoring for the first quarter.

Quarter 2: Graceland 14 | Vikings 14

The Yellowjackets came out hot, wasting no time with a drive of 43-yards, Cade Ross was able to rush for a 1-yard touchdown to close the gap, and Tom Troeth added the extra point.

With just over two minutes of play in the second quarter, the Yellowjackets pulled together a drive of seven plays and ended with a Cade Ross rushing touchdown to tie the game heading into the half.

Quarter 3: Graceland 21 | Vikings 21

Graceland's defense coming out of the half halted the drive by the Vikings, resulting in a 5-yard punt (three plays, 0-yards). A 28-yard touchdown by Cade Ross and the extra point from Joseph Sanchez gave the Yellowjackets the lead (21-14).

At the seven-minute mark, the Viking's Oliver Svirsky found wide receiver Dorian Miles for 37 yards touchdown to tie the game.

Quarter 4: Graceland 21 | Vikings 21

In the fourth quarter, neither team was able to score the game-winning point, forcing overtime.

Overtime: Graceland 21 | Vikings 28

The Vikings started with the first possession of overtime. Both teams worked for the endzone; the Vikings were able to locate the endzone with a touchdown by Wide Receiver Brian Smith to end the game 28-21.

The Yellowjackets will be back on the field when they host the Central Methodist (Mo.) Eagles on Saturday, September 17th. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm on Huntsman Field.
