Vikings Down Graceland at Huntsman Field
LAMONI - The Missouri Valley College Vikings defeated the Yellowjackets 43-6 after waiting through a near three-hour weather delay.
Originally scheduled for 6 pm, the Vikings and Yellowjackets would kick off last night at 8:40 pm after waiting through several lightning delays.
Missouri Valley would open the game by scoring the first 13 points. They were forced to punt on their following offensive drive which pinned the Graceland offense down inside their own 5. The Yellowjackets would put together a 20-play, 96-yard scoring drive. An Augustine Dattoli pass to Caleb Thomas would result in a 31-yard touchdown to cap off the drive. The drive made the score 13-6 as Graceland's drive lasted over nine minutes.
The Vikings were able to capitalize off of a Graceland safety towards the end of the first half to take a 22-6 lead into the half.
After both teams were held scoreless in the third quarter, Graceland put themselves in reaching distance of the Vikings going into the final quarter. Missouri Valley would end up scoring the final 21 points of the game to earn the 43-6 win.
Graceland did have a season-high in rushing yards on the night with 109 yards. Thomas, the Yellowjackets team-leader in receptions for game, had seven catches for 66 yards.
Linebacker Tevin Cameron had an impressive night defensively for Graceland. He had 11 total tackles, including ten solo and forced a fumble as well in the contest.
Graceland (0-5) will now go on the road next week to face Evangel University (4-1) in Ozark, Missouri scheduled for a 1 pm kickoff.
