Graceland Splits to Open Series With Culver-Stockton
LAMONI - The Graceland University Baseball team split in their doubleheader today to open up a four-game set with the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats.
GAME 1 (L 3-2)
Both the Wildcats and Yellowjackets each scored a run in the first inning to make it 1-1 heading into the second. In the fifth inning, Culver-Stockton took the lead after a two-out double. Graceland responded in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game back up at 2-2.
After a lead-off triple in the top of the seventh, the Wildcats would take a 3-2 lead. The Yellowjackets had runners on in their final at bats, but were unable to bring in the tying run.
Statistically, Anthony Moore threw a complete game on the mound while striking out five Wildcat batters. Graceland had four hits as a team, two from Skyler Harris.
GAME 2 (W 5-3)
In the top of the second inning, Culver-Stockton scored the first run of today's second game. Trailing 1-0, Graceland took the lead in the bottom of the second after scoring two runs off of two hits. They extended their lead to 5-1 in the following inning over the Wildcats.
Culver-Stockton scored twice in the latter part of the game, but Graceland held on for the win to earn the split.
On the mound, Cody Ferguson picked up the win going 6-plus innings and allowing just two earned runs. Cameron Vodraska earned the save after finishing the game off in the seventh. Offensively, Graceland had eight hits collectively. They were led by Jerred Soriano with three including a double and two RBI.
The Yellowjackets will return to Chase Stadium tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. to complete the series against the Wildcats.
