Baseball Wraps Up Weekend Series With Statesmen

LAMONI - The Graceland University Baseball team fell in their final two games yesterday versus the William Penn University Statesmen at Chase Stadium.

GAME 1 (L 17-4)

William Penn put up and eight-spot in the first inning of yesterday's opener to take a big lead early. The Statesmen then added five more in the following inning. Graceland's offense put up their first runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning. They added one more then in the fourth, but William Penn held on to take the opener.

Skyler Harris led Graceland with two hits in the game. Also, Tanner Maskey homered in game one with two RBI to his credit.

GAME 2 (L 13-3)

After a scoreless first two innings, William Penn scored six in the top of the third to go up 6-0. Graceland was able to answer in the bottom half of the inning to trim the deficit down to just four. The Statesmen offense would later help them pull away from the Yellowjackets, leading them to 13 runs in game two.

The Yellowjackets had four hits in the second game of the doubleheader, two of them from Matt Reyes which led to two RBI.

The Graceland baseball team will now be in action again on Tuesday afternoon as they have picked up a non-conference doubleheader. They will face Midland University starting at 2 p.m. back at Chase Stadium in Lamoni.
