ASHLAND, MO. - The Graceland University baseball team fell in their two games today versus Central Methodist University, 9-0 and 22-10. With the losses, Graceland is now 2-12 overall and starts the Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) 0-2.
GAME 1
Chris Morris started on the mound for Graceland and kept the Eagles in check for the first five innings. He allowed just three runs off of five hits while striking out two batters. Leadoff batter Andres Lopez tried to add a spark early with a single and a stolen base but the Yellowjackets struggled to string together at bats. Coming in to relief was Daniel Heffington who came in to record a quick out but was bested by the Eagles' sixth inning surge. To start the 7th, Tanner Maskey got on base with a single but Graceland was unable to ignite a comeback falling to CMU, 9-0.
GAME 2
The Eagles recorded a 3-run home run in the 1st to jump out to an early lead. Then, the Yellowjackets answered back with four consecutive singles coming from Bryan Paez, Darwin Marquez, Jaichis Holmes and Justin Wells. All four would come around to score later in the inning. CMU then answered with a 7-spot in the 4th inning that allowed them to pull away from the Yellowjackets. In the bottom of the 4th, Wells drew a walk to bring up Tanner Maskey who put one over the fence for a two-run shot. Later in the game, Jachias Holmes hit a double and was later brought home with a single from Lopez. Andrew Maxson soon after would draw a walk followed by a Paez single but the late push wasn't enough as the Yellowjackets came up short losing, 22-10.
The baseball team will look to bounce back later today as they travel to Marshall, Mo. to face Missouri Valley College at 1 and 3:30 pm.
