Seniors Win Final Game At Chase Stadium

Lamoni, IA - The Graceland baseball team hosted Central Methodist University today at Chase Stadium for its final home contest of the 2016 season.

CMU was victorious in the fist game of the afternoon, 5-2. But in the final home game of their Graceland careers, the GU seniors went out with a victory, outplaying the visiting Eagles to the tune of 8-4.

In game one, the Jackets looked to get something going in the first when William Salas and Corey Harrell hit back-to-back singles to left field with 2 outs. Unfortunately, a ground out to short would leave the pair stranded.

In the second inning Orangel Medina singled to left. When Austin Allen layed down a sac bunt, a wild throw would allow Medina to come around to score while Allen ended up at third. An rbi single from Xavier Colon would bring Allen in and give Graceland a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles were able to grab those two runs back in the next half inning.

In the bottom half of the third, the Jackets put more heat on the CMU defense, loading the bases with no outs. But the Eagles induced a strikeout that was sandwiched between two ground outs to leave another three runners stranded.

Eagle lead-off man, Joba Farrell, led off the fifth inning with his second triple of the game and CMU would go on to score two more runs.

They would add one more insurance run off the bat of Bradley who homered to left field.

The Jackets gained 10 hits in the game, but stranded eight of those base runners.

In the second game of the day, the final home game of the season, Graceland would put together a complete performance with excellent defense and quality at-bats throughout the lineup.

A walk from Nate Goff, a sac bunt from Medina and an rbi from Angel Hernandez Jr. gave Graceland a 1-0 lead.

GU would add to its lead with three more runs in the third inning.

Doubles from both Parker Reynolds and Harrell would net the Yellowjackets another run in the fourth.

That was an important run for GU, as the Eagles designated hitter, Albe Adamus hit a massive 3-run blast over the scoreboard, the trees, and into the corn field in the fifth to make the score 5-4 in favor of the Jackets.

GU added some insurance of its own in the sixth when three hits and two hit-batters would give Graceland an 8-4 lead.

Tyler Abbot and Austin Allen each had 3 hits for the game, while Reynolds had himself a pair of doubles.

The Graceland baseball team will have its last series of the 2016 next weekend when they travel to Oskaloosa, IA to take on Heart foe, William Penn University.
