Graceland Represents in the CONCACAF Nations League
Lamoni – Graceland University women's soccer players Natalie Nedd and Annalisa Vincent recently competed in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying round of matches. The Lady Jags, as they are known, won their first two outings under head coach Dr. Ivan Joseph '96, who is a current member of Graceland's board of trustees.
Coach Joseph said, "What a joy to see two Gracelanders shine so brightly representing Guyana at the qualifiers. Annalisa Vincent has burst onto the international stage and has made her mark immediately. Natalie Nedd is a veteran presence in the net for our team and has developed her game significantly during her time at Graceland."
Vincent saw time in both games and scored a goal in Guyana's 4-0 victory vs. Dominica on February 16, 2022. Nedd is serving as a backup goalkeeper.
Graceland Women's Soccer Head Coach Darryn "Ozzie" White expressed his pride for Natalie and Annalisa. "It is the ultimate honor to represent your country and for Annalisa to score two goals is amazing. Achieving two out of two wins gives Guyana plenty of momentum leading into the next round of matches in April. Both Natalie and Annalisa are great people, successful in the classroom, and playing in the World Cup – WOW!!"
The Graceland connection on the Guyana National Team runs deeper than just two players and the head coach. Several Yellowjacket soccer alumni and friends are a part of Joseph's coaching staff:
Tina Cook '09, went to the Elite 8 and now coaches the women's team at York University in Canada.
KasyKiarash '12, who was part of the men's national championship team and is the assistant coach at Ryerson University.
Filip Prostran '07, who was a member of the men's national championship team and is the head coach of the nationally-ranked Ryerson University men's soccer program.
Kevin Sherry, who took the Graceland women's soccer team from a 1-win season to a final four in less than five years coaching at Graceland, was the lead assistant for the Lady Jaguars in 2018.
Guyana's next outing is against Nicaragua on April 8 followed by a match against Trinidad and Tobago, the top-ranked team in their group, on April 12. Their two victories currently have them at the top of Group F.
