Coach Daniel Alvarado is entering his first season as the Yellowjacket men's and women's head coach after serving as assistant coach for the last four years under Kent Allshouse. During that time Alvarado coached 25 NAIA national meet qualifiers. In 2010, during the indoor season, Alvarado coached the indoor medley relay team consisting of Ahmed Khalif, Justin Gibbs, Ben Vink, and Neil Grundman to an All-American 6th place finish. Then, just this past outdoor season, he helped guide Yonas Mebrahtu to a 7th place finish in the 10k at the NAIA national meet where he broke the school record with a time of 30:27.84.

Coach Alvarado began his coaching career as a fifth year student in the fall of 2000 where he aided Graceland University Hall of Famer Kristy Feldman to the first cross country athlete named All-American in school history with a fourth place finish at NAIA cross country nationals. That same year, Steve Scime won a national title in the mile indoors and set the Graceland indoor mile school record of 4:11.05.

Coach Alvarado became a full time assistant coach at Graceland from the fall of 2001 through the spring of 2005. During that time, he was an instrumental part of the program's success which included the training of 34 national qualifiers, 12 NAIA All-Americans and a two-time Canadian Olympic Trials qualifier.

In the fall of 2005 Coach Alvarado left to become the Head Cross Country and Track coach at William Penn University. In his first year as head cross country coach he helped qualify Tyne Crandell to her second NAIA National Meet appearance where she improved her time by almost 30 seconds at the championships. He also had four all-conference runners two in each the men's and women's programs. In the spring of 2006 during the outdoor track season he had four national qualifiers for the NAIA National Outdoor Championships. There Coach Alvarado guided his female triple jumper Na'Onka Mixon to the school's first All-American since 2002 with a sixth-place finish in the event. In his second year at the helm he guided one individual, Demitrius Byrd to an all-conference performance when he finished fourth on the men's side during cross country season. Then during track season he had four individuals qualify for the NAIA National Outdoor Meet with three young men and one young lady that qualified in three events. At nationals she missed All-American status in two of the events by one spot with a seventh place finish in the triple jump and the long jump.

Coach Alvarado had not only been successful as a coach, but also as an athlete. He was a four year letter winner in both cross country and indoor and outdoor track. He also qualified for nationals on five different occasions. Once in cross country and twice in both the indoor and outdoor track seasons. Coach Alvarado was the team-captain his junior and senior seasons in cross country and a member of six Heart of America Athletic Conference championship teams.

Coach Alvarado earned his bachelor of arts in Physical Education from Graceland University in 2001.
