Coach Brunner started coaching the men’s and women’s Yellowjacket golf teams in the fall of 2001. The teams have won several tournaments over his tenure as golf coach. Both the men’s and women’s teams have finished as runner-up at the conference tournament barely missing a trip to the national tournament. He has had multiple players (2006 and 2013) win the Heart of America Athletic Conference golf tournament. He has conducted a summer golf camp in late June for area children since 2003 where attendance has ranged as high as 72 campers. He has created a very impressive practice facility over his tenure as head coach that includes a driving range with a heated indoor practice area. The coach is still an avid golfer and is excited about the future of golf at Graceland.
Coach Brunner is native to Colorado where he won a state golf tournament in during his High School career and he won many junior events while growing up on the northeastern plains. He graduated from Graceland in 1986. While attending Graceland he played on the Yellowjacket golf team and won a sudden death playoff to finish in 5th place at the district tournament in 1984 and made the all-conference team in 1986. After graduation, he worked at Cerner Corporation until 1998 when he made the switch from software development to teaching. In 2001, he added coaching the golf teams to his responsibilities at Graceland.
Coach Brunner is married to Heather (Badder) and has three children Keeley (’15), Timothy and Tiffany.
Coach Ranney has been an integral part of the Graceland golf teams for several years. He has been instrumental in building better golf swings, increased mental focus, and helps the team to reach higher goals. His knowledge of the game and his insight into swing development is fundamental to the success of the team.
Coach Ranney moved to many locations while he was growing up and had a very successful junior golf career. He is a 1984 Graceland graduate. After playing two years of college golf on the east coast, Ranney transferred to Graceland and played #1 on the team for two years. He received all-district honors and all-conference honors as a Yellowjacket player. After graduation he moved to Texas where he played on a tour for a short time. He received his PGA card in 1993 and started teaching lessons in the Austin, Texas, area. He moved to Lamoni in 1994 and has been serving the community, southern Iowa, and northern Missouri by teaching lessons and supporting golf events of all kinds. He is the PGA Professional at the Lamoni Golf and Country Club. He is an outstanding teacher of the game and his knowledge of all aspects of the game are excellent.
Coach Ranney is married to Sandy (Scherrad) and has three children Trent (‘13), Kyla, and Cooper.
