Muskogee, OK - The Graceland baseball team finished up its weekend series with Bacone College today splitting a double-header with the Warriors.
The Jackets won game one, 3-2 but dropped the second of the twin bill, 10-9.
Head Coach
Brady McKillip was pleased with the overall performance of his team in Oklahoma, but admits there are still several things to work on.
"Offensively I thought we had a very good weekend," said McKillip afterwards. "We executed and hit well in key situations.
"We've got to improve defensively and figure out how to get the back end of our bullpen rolling," he continued. "I'm excited about this team and the potential we have moving ahead."
Game one of the double header saw a great outing from starter
Jake Clark. Clark threw seven-innings of complete game baseball giving up only two earned runs on the afternoon, walking only two and striking out six.
Pinch-hitter
Euddi Ortega drove in the winning run in the top of the seventh-inning on a beautifully executed squeeze play in the 3-2 victory. First baseman
Chase Kuehl and catcher
Meredith Meador drove in the other two Graceland runs.
In game two, Graceland let leads of four and three slip away in a 10-9 loss. Outfielder
Alex Pena drove in three runs and
Matt Kobeski went 3-5 with two RBI's in the game two loss.
Graceland now stands at 2-3 overall and will head south again this weekend to play three different teams over a three day span.
