LAMONI, IA – Graceland University's Rafael Yegros produced a hat trick in the men's soccershut out over Clarke University. The Yellowjackets defeated the Pride 6-0.
The game started almost two hours late due to lightning and rain delays. Graceland got on the board early, scoring in the 14th minute of the game. Robert Turk connected with Andrez Ruiz Rueda to go ahead 1-0. Graceland continued to move the ball around and was able to get a second goal before halftime. Through a passing combination, Rafael Yegros counted a goal on a double-assist from Ruiz Rueda and Joao Luis Holtskog Aguiar in the 34th minute of the first half. Graceland led 2-0 after the first 45 minutes of play.
Graceland continued to look strong to open the second half. Graceland saw their third goal of the contest from Yegros on a pass from Nicholas Wiggan in the 61st minute. Less than seven minutes later, the Jacket struck again. This time, Turk would score the goal, the assist going to Mateo Galindo Montenegro. The score was 4-0 in favor of the Jackets.
The Yellowjackets kept pushing forward and challenging the Pride's back line. With just five minutes to play, combination play led to GU's fifth goal. Yegros and Jose Maria Ruiz Gomez played in combination before connecting with Joachim Kikuni to put the Jackets ahead 5-0.
Yegros scored his third and final goal to compete a hat-trick in the final seconds. Graceland defeated Clarke University 6-0.
Graceland University outshot Clarke University 26-5 in the game. The Jackets placed 14 shots on goal to the Prides' one.
Men's soccer will play next in Lamoni, IA on Saturday, October 14 for Homecoming. GU will take on Avila University at 8:30 p.m.
