INDIANOLA, IA – Indianola Country Club played host to the Simpson Invitational on Wednesday September 27th where 11 teams fought it out at each hole. The Graceland women's golf program walked away in the eighth position (442) at the end of it.
Central came out on top with a team score of 329, snatching the first place finish from Simpson (331) by merely two strokes. Although Grand View took third, the Vikings did have the top finishing golfer, Kim Anak Nelson who was only one over par, shooting a 72 for the day.
Graceland traveled a squad of five golfers including Evy Wells, Julia Austin, Sierra Marshall, Dora Martz, and Jenna Cole, however after an unfortunate accident on the first hole, only four of them were able to compete.
Evy Wells led Graceland's squad shooting a 97 for the day which landed her in the 32nd position. Julia Austin came in close behind Wells tallying 101. Next in line was Sierra Marshall with a final stroke count of 115, and she was followed by Dora Martz who reported a 129 on her score card.
Jenna Cole suffered an injury on the first hole and was unable to compete the rest of the Invite. Coach Brunner and the team are thankful she is okay and are looking forward to when she is able to return back to competition.
"We had really good effort, with great conditions to play on a challenging course," said Kevin Brunner, head golf coach.
