Lamoni, IA - The Graceland men's and women's track and field teams hosted the L.D. Weldon Classic Sunday afternoon at the Ackerley Track on Graceland's campus.
The first outdoor home meet for many years produced some inspiring results for the Yellowjackets as two school records were set today.
The first was the men's 200m dash. Johnny Geter, a junior from McKinney, TX, set the new school mark with a time of 20.56 seconds. His time meets the NAIA 'A' standard which means he will recieve an automatic entry into the National Track and Field Meet for this event.
Not to be outdone, Tannesha Edwards, a freshman from Macon, MO also achieved a school record in the women's 200m dash with a time of 24.59. This time also meets the NAIA 'A' standard.
William Snorgrass attained the NAIA 'A' Standard on his way to a second place finish with a jump of 23' 8''.
In the Men's 100m dash, Tyrell Hemingway ran the NAIA 'B' Standard with a first place time of 10.68. The 'B' standard means that Hemingway may qualify for Nationals, depending on how many other athletes achieve this standard prior to the National Championships.
"Today was a great day for our track & field program, and for Graceland University." Commented head coach Nick Ekel. "Our students came to compete today, and we were able to come away from this meet with four NAIA qualifying marks, and with two new school records. We will celebrate today, and keep working towards the conference and national meets."
"I would like to thank the Graceland Family for coming together to help make this meet possible. Events like this are a true team effort, and we could not have had this event without the help of this community."
