LAMONI, Iowa – Four players scored in double-figures as Graceland University won their 15th conference game of the season. Graceland defeated MidAmerica Nazarene University 84-69.
The Yellowjackets are now 18-8 (15-7 Heart), while the Pioneers fell to 12-13 (11-10 Heart).
"I am so proud of our guys. Our team was preseason ranked #10 in the conference and our guys just continue to pull out big wins," said Head Coach Craig Doty. "MidAmerica runs one of the best men's basketball programs in the country year-in and year-out. This was a big win for us as we continue to leverage ourselves towards the post-season."
RJ William's triple five minutes into the contest gave the Yellowjackets a 10-point lead (14-4). Later, MidAmerica Nazarene used an 8-0 run to cut the margin to just one at 22-21. Then with less than five to play, back-to-back field goals by Jordan Dembley lengthened GU's advantage to 10. The Yellowjackets went into the locker room ahead 42-37.
Early in the second half, MNU tied the contest at 50-50. With 6:36 to play, Graceland was able to create a five-point buffer after a trey by Jordan Dembey. Momentum continued with GU for the next couple of minutes as the team pushed the lead to 10 (76-66). The Yellowjackets controlled the final three minutes of the game, winning 84-69.
The teams were almost dead even in shooting percentage tonight, only being separated 0.2 percent. The Jackets buried 12 three-pointers to the Pioneers seven. GU forced 19 MNU turnovers, totaling 12 steals.
RJ Williams came off the bench, knocking down 11. Dylan Martin rounded out the double-figures with ten points. He also pulled down six rebounds, while Carl Martin came up with five steals and five assists.
The Pioneers were led by Justin Randall with 22 points, nine rebound and six blocks. David Nelson added 18 points, while Justin Jamison contributed 10 rebounds.
Men's basketball next travels to Mount Mercy University on Wed., Feb. 15th. Game is slated for a 7:30p.m. start.
