MARSHALL, Mo. - Jeremy Deemer produced his fourth double-double of the year with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Graceland University defeated Missouri Valley College on the road 84-71.
Graceland moved to 14-7 on the year (11-6). Missouri Valley dropped to 10-9 (8-8 Heart).
The Jackets started off the night strong, holding a eight point (14-6) lead five minutes into the night after a pair of free-throws by Deemer. Midway through the half, Frank Cimino splashed a triple to extend Graceland's advantage to 17 points (31-14). The Yellowjackets continued to maintain the edge, leading 41-32 at the break.
Early into the second half, Carl Martin buried a three pointer, as GU led 50-36. With 12 minutes to play, MVC's Tim Washington knocked down a pair of free-throws to start the Vikings on run. Missouri Valley outscored Graceland 11-2 to slash the deficit to two (57-55).
With 4:36 to play, Jeremy Deemer converted on a three-point play to extend the Jackets' score to 71-61. Graceland continued the momentum, defeating Missouri Valley 84-71 on the road.
"We played 30 minutes of solid basketball tonight," said head coach Craig Doty. "Missouri Valley plays five guards and we were able to take advantage of them inside. Deemer has been really special this season and our guys created a bunch of opportunities for him tonight."
Graceland University shot 55.9 percent (33-59) from the floor tonight, including 41.7 percent (10-24) from beyond the arc. Missouri Valley was held to 41.1 percent (23-56) and 25 percent (5-20) from three-point range.
Deemer led the Jackets with 24 points and 10 rebounds. He went 9-for-12 from the floor, knocking down six free-throws. Also scoring in double-figures for GU was Cimino (16), Ben Grygiel (11), and RJ Williams (12). Dylan Martin ripped down seven rebounds, as Grygiel also dished out a game-high nine assists.
The Vikings also had four players in double-digits today. Kyle Hickey led MVC with 16 points. Bobby Collins III added 14 points, as Brody Gronewold and Tim Washington rounded the night out with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The men's basketball team will return home on Monday, January 30th for another Heart matchup. Graceland will host Clarke University at 7:30 p.m.
