SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Five players scored in double-figures in Graceland University's 104-95 loss to Evangel University on the road.
The Yellowjackets dropped to 13-7 overall and 10-6 in conference play. Evangel improved to 9-11 and 6-10.
Head Coach Craig Doty said, "Evangel played really well offensively tonight. When we had a defensive lapse, they made us pay. When we played solid defensive possessions, they still made shots. We struggled defending their motion offense and it buried us in the first half."
Evangel took the lead from the start, before going ahead by 11 midway through the first half. A triple by RJ Williams, followed by a three-point play by Jeremy Deemer cut the deficit to five points. Graceland was able to get within four points, but a late run by Evangel lengthened the margin to 18 at half (49-31). The Yellowjackets struggled from the floor in the first half scoring just nine baskets. Evangel on the other hand scored 20 field goals, including nine triples.
Early in the second half, the Crusaders' advantage remained at 18 points (64-46). Midway through the period, LT Davis splashed a three-pointer, before GU forced a turnover. On the Jackets next possession, Deemer kissed the glass, cutting the deficit to 10 points. With just over five minutes to go, Frank Cimino's three-pointer brought the score to within seven (84-77). Graceland was unable to get any closer, falling on the road 104-95.
On the night, Graceland University went 33-for-62 from the floor (53.2 percent), as Evangel University shot 34-for-57 (59.6 percent). The Crusaders sank 12-of-19 from beyond the arc, while the Jackets went 10-for-25.
RJ Williams led the Jackets with 22 points in the contest, as Carl Martin and Jeremy Deemer added 16 points each. Jordan Dembley and LT Davis rounded out the double-figure performance with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Deemer completed his third double-double on the year with 10 rebounds.
Cody Greiger and Nick Yocum led five Crusaders in double-figures. Greiger counted 27 points, while Yocum added 23 points.
Men's basketball will next travel to Missouri Valley College on Saturday. The contest is set to begin at 4 p.m.
