LAWRENCE, KS - Competing in their first meet of the season, Graceland University performed well as two athletes set personal records.
Head Coach Reece Vega said, "For a meet in December I am very impressed with our performances. A number of athletes left off were they did last indoor season. We had a number of athletes PR at this meet which is unheard of this early in the season."
Highlighting the way for the men was Michael Torres in the 400 meter dash. He placed 4th, clocking a time of 50.64 second. The mark hits an indoor PR for him.
"Michael Torres looks great this early, he already hit a big PR and we haven't even hit the bulk of our training yet," continued Vega. "It'll be great to see how he progresses."
Zacary Stetzel followed with a fifth place finished in the 800 meter run. He also ran an indoor PR with a time of 2:05.05.
"Zac's heat ran a weird race and we know his time will drop down," remarked Vega. "It's a good indicator that he was able to run right with all the Division 1 guys."
Freshman Justus Swint added a ninth place finish in the 200 meter with a time of 23.11 seconds.
For the women, Naomi Dalton placed 8th in the shot put and weight throw with a throws of 11.78 and 13.16 meters, respectively.
Vega closed with, "Naomi is back after taking a year of from competing in track. She is still getting back into everything, but we expect big things out of her."
Irene Moreno ran the 800 in a time of 2:37.43 to finish ninth.
