Lawrence, KS - The Graceland men and women's golf teams opened its spring season today at the Ottawa Invitational hosted by Ottawa University. On day one the men's team finished with a score of 311 to tie them with Kansas Wesleyan University for fifth place. The women's squad only had three competitors which was not enough for a team score.
On the men's side Kansas City Kansas CC in currently in the number one position, with a score of 290. Des Moines Area CC and Ottawa finished second and third respectively.
Kansas CC's Jeremy Durham is currently sitting in first place after day one with a score of 70 .
Zarems was the top finisher for Graceland, coming in tied for sixth place with a score of 74. Herrera who tied for eleventh place had a day one score of 75.
"This was a good day of scoring to open spring season," said Head Coach Kevin Brunner. "Zarems and Herrera played well and if the others were at the same level we would be right there."
Miller was on top for Graceland coming in with a score of 86, tied for 17th place. Krueger would tie for 37th place with a score of 96 on day one.
Caitlin McNabb would round out the GU women as she would come in 50th place with a score of 109.
"Krueger played well," said Coach Brunner. " She made a couple of mistakes at the end which cost her a better score. Miller was her usual consistent player."
Both the men and women's team will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the Ottawa Invitational.
