Springfield, MO - The Graceland men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Springfield, Missouri on Friday to participate in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals.
The Jackets tennis teams took 18 athletes (13 men and 5 women) to the ITA Regional Tournament.
On the men's side Jose Daniele Razo Torres, Jamie Sordyl, Birkir Gunnarsson and Gonzalo Sibrian Torres went undefeated on day one of the tournament and will go on to compete in quarterfinals on Saturday.
Two men's doubles teams, consisting of Danil Kanunnikov/Gunnarrsson and Razo Torres/Sordyl, will also go on to compete in the quarterfinals.
For the women, Jessica Worring will be the only Lady Jacket to compete in the singles quarterfinals in day two.
Worring will also compete with doubles partner, Melynda Simmons in the doubles quarterfinals on Saturday.
"We had a very good first day," said head coach Monroe Walker. "We had the most wins by any school but we have to continue to finish strong.
"We have high hopes in making it to finals tomorrow."
In day two of the ITA Regionals, Jessica Worring and Birkir Gunnarsson had another impressive showing for the Graceland men's and women's tennis teams and will continue on to play in the finals on Sunday.
Unfortunately both doubles teams lost on Saturday and will not be continuing on.
Brezile Hamilton was able to grab a win in the finals of the consolation A draw with a score of 8-5.
"I'm happy with the results today," continued Walker. "I wish we could have had representation in all the finals but I'm still impressed with how far we have gone this weekend.
"I hope to bring home titles tomorrow."
On the final day of the ITA Regional tournament, Worring fell in the finals while Gunnarsson grabbed the title and will be going on to the ITA Nationals.
