Atchison, KS - The Graceland baseball team traveled to Atchison, Kansas today for a HAAC double-header against Benedictine College.
The Jackets and Ravens split the twin-bill as BC took game one, 9-0 and GU won game two, 10-3
In game one, the starting pitching of Graceland couldn't match the hot bats of Benedictine. Jacket pitcher Euddi Ortega started his first game today for GU and lasted four innings, giving up nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits and walking one.
In the second game, the Jackets received a strong outing from starter Dillon Stoner. Stoner threw six strong innings, giving up only two runs, on four hits, while striking out three and walking three.
Offensively, he was backed by Pena and Ortega. Pena went 3-5 with a single, triple and homerun, with three RBIs and scoring two runs. Ortega went 2-5 with a two-run homerun and scoring three runs his self. Chase Kuehl, Bryan Couch, Shawn Hovlid and Miles Shelton all drove in runs as well in the 10-3 win.
GU now stands 16-18 overall and 6-8 in HAAC play. Graceland will look to take a few days off and host Culver-Stockton College in a four game HAAC series on Saturday (April 14th) and Sunday (April 15th). Games on Saturday are scheduled to start at 1pm.
